How to Build a Daily News Podcast Using Only Free Tools
Daily news podcasts are popular because they're habit-forming. Listeners tune in every morning during their commute. But producing one every day sounds exhausting — unless you automate the voiceover part.
Here's a free workflow using VoxCraft and other no-cost tools.
Step 1: Curate Your Sources Use free RSS readers or news APIs to aggregate headlines. Focus on 5–7 top stories per episode. 5 minutes of audio is roughly 750 words.
Step 2: Write the Script Template structure:
Intro (15 seconds): "Good morning, here's your [Date] news briefing." Story 1 (60 seconds): Headline + 2 key details + context Story 2 (60 seconds) Story 3 (60 seconds) Story 4 (45 seconds) Story 5 (45 seconds) Outro (15 seconds): "That's your briefing. See you tomorrow."
Step 3: Generate Voiceover Paste the script into VoxCraft TTS. Use a newscast-style voice for authority. Generate and download as MP3.
Step 4: Add Intro Music Use VoxCraft's Background Music tool to generate a 5-second intro sting. Or use a free Creative Commons track.
Step 5: Merge and Export Use VoxCraft's Audio Merger to combine:
Intro music (faded out) Main voiceover Outro music (faded in)
Export as MP3 at 192 kbps.
Step 6: Distribute Upload to Anchor (free hosting) which distributes to Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and Google Podcasts automatically.
Time Investment With practice, the entire process takes 20–30 minutes per day. The voiceover generation itself takes under 2 minutes.
Monetization Once you hit 1,000 downloads per episode, apply for podcast ad networks or Patreon.
